5S
Allow me to remind you about the 5s of kaizen. I know you've heard about this topic many times. But that is the nature of tool box talk. Topics must be repeated. And they are not repeated just for the sake of repeating. They're repeated because they are taught to human beings. And you know human beings are fallible. They make mistakes. They forget. And sometimes they fall victim to the temptations of ignorance and end up ignoring the very basic principles of safety.
And this ignorance will always lead to injuries, illnesses and fatalities.
1. Sorting
-Sorting means separating what you need from what you don't.
-This exercise reduces the time spent when looking for what you need in your workplace.
-So if you spent alot of time looking for.....
-And you must never feel sorry when throwing away what you don't need.
2. Setting in order
-is about organizing what is left for efficiency and quick access.
3. Shining
-thorough cleaning of a workspace and equipments.
-this exercise creates a more pleasant environment for all employees.
4. Standardize
-creating and implementing systems to maintain the organized and clean conditions achieved in the previous steps.
-Everyone must participate in these activities regardless of their status
5. Sustainability
-Sustainability here means discipline or continuous commitment.
This cycle must be maintained.
-it should become a habit of every employee.
6. Safety
-In layman's language, safety is the state of being safe.
-And you can not be safe if you don't adhere to these principles.
I know adhering to them has always been the core struggle for employees in the workplace.
And some even dismiss these principles as silly and naive until that time when they become victims of circumstances.
So let's try and practice these principles and at the end of the day we will see remarkable changes.
Have a safe working day.
