How to deal with a heavy workload or overworking

Overworking is causing someone to work beyond their capacity or strength. In other words it's having too much to do especially when you don't have enough time and resources to do the job.
And this ofcourse can be tiring and frustrating more so when you don't have enough staff or when the project is too big to handle.

How do you know that you have a heavy workload
1. Feel stressed and overworked at work
2. Work for longer hours
3. Constantly juggle multiple projects and responsibilities
4. Make frequent costly errors e.g skimping on spare parts
5. Notice diminishing quality of work
6. Are unhappy
7. Start looking for another job and feel resentful about your current job
8. Burnout (Being worn-out both physically and emotionally)

Techniques to deal with a heavy workload
1. Calm down your mind- practice mindfulness (maintain a moment-by-moment awareness of your thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and surrounding environment)
2. Organize your tasks- rank them in order of their importance
3. Breakdown into manageable pieces - if you have a large project break it down into bite-sized and reasonable tasks that can be managed.
4. Set realistic deadlines- ensure due date works on your favor
5. Learn to say no- Taking on every task that comes your way will quickly lead to burnout and depletion of the quality of work.
6. Delegate when possible -Delegation is not a sign of laziness, but rather a very smart way to manage your time and resources.

So it comes as no surprise that most of us feel frazzled, disorganized and depleted when dealing with heavy workloads. That is obvious.
But remember giving yourself enough time to rest, recover, and refocus is as important as planning and organizing your workplace. And this will ensure that the workload doesn't become a nightmare to you.
